In the past few decades the New Zealand art market has become an increasingly niche one. Gone are the days where artists like Colin McCahon and Ralph Hotere were held among Kiwi royalty. Now most people would struggle to name a single working New Zealand artist. This is reflected when they see that, in New Zealand, only 5,000 people buy art, meaning that there are more working artists than there are art buyers. This is a problem for SKY Arts and the arts in general.
